Whatever you now find weird, ugly, uncomfortable and nasty about a new medium will surely become its signature. CD distortion, the jitteriness of digital video, the crap sound of 8-bit - all of these will be cherished and emulated as soon as they can be avoided. It’s the sound of failure: so much modern art is the sound of things going out of control, of a medium pushing to its limits and breaking apart. The distorted guitar sound is the sound of something too loud for the medium supposed to carry it. The blues singer with the cracked voice is the sound of an emotional cry too powerful for the throat that releases it. The excitement of grainy film, of bleached-out black and white, is the excitement of witnessing events too momentous for the medium assigned to record them.

That moment in Rear Window when he looks straight at the camera. Perfect example of how Voyeurism and subjective camera angles can be to build suspense and tension.

Amazing track. Even listening to this without the film, it makes you feel something. A great example of how music in a film can help the audience “see what cant be seen”

Art Inspired Short Films

I have just finished my dissertation and finished directing my graduation film, which was incredibly challenging but hopefully my hard-work will pay off with some good grades!  So, while im waiting for my grades, its time I moved onto a new project. Within the next few months I will be going to various museums and taking photos of Art that inspires me, writing down the first five words that come into my head at first glance, which I will then script, storyboard and shoot. The films will be around 3 minutes each, but I would love to have people’s feedback and what they think when they see the art, whether you agree or disagree please follow my blog to keep posted. :)

What happened between year 10 and 23?

12 Angry Men

12 ANGRY MEN (1957)
Such a good film, really opened my eyes as to how powerful directing is within film and how it can make even the simple seem interesting and unmissable.
